Defensores del Chaco National Park, or Gran Chaco, as the locals call it, is a cross-border national park located on a plain that stretches over part of the territory of Paraguay, Bolivia, Argentina, and Brazil. About 20% of this plain is a protected area due to a specific ecosystem containing about 3400 plant species and about 870 animal species. In Paraguay, this national park covers an area of 720,000 hectares and includes a hilly area called Cerro Leon. In the park, you can meet several species of armadillos, large wild cats such as puma and jaguar, tapir, and many other species.
