Ala-Kul is a lake in the north-eastern part of the country, and a trail leads to it that is typically crossed in two days on foot to reach a lake that sits at an altitude of 3560 meters above sea level. The lake was created by natural partitioning with a stone dam of the Karakol valley, probably through an earthquake. The trail, and of course the lake, is one of the most recommended contents for trekkers visiting Kyrgyzstan.
