Burana Tower is a ruin of a minaret that originally had a height of 45 meters. Due to the impact of the earthquake in the 15th century, the building partially collapsed and currently has a height of 25 meters. The tower is a remnant of Balasagun Fortress built in the 11th century. Local legend says that the tower was built by rich Khan to protect his beloved daughter from the prophecy according to which she was supposed to die from a spider bite on her sixteenth birthday. The story goes that she was bitten by a poisonous spider from a fruit basket that her father brought her as a gift. Khan roared so much in pain that the tower collapsed.
