Esztergom Basilica, also known as Bakócz Chapel, is the largest church and the tallest building (hundred meters) in Hungary. The basilica is located northwest of Budapest, on the banks of the Danube. This is the seat of the Holy Catholic Church in Hungary. There have been basilicas in this place since the 1000s. A 400-step staircase leads from the crypt to the dome, and the internal height is 71 meters. The painting on the altar is claimed to be the largest painting on a single piece of canvas. Somewhat ironically, the most beautiful view of the exterior of the basilica is from the opposite side of the Danube, from Slovakia.
