Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park was built in honor of the first lifelong president of Ghana. The monument is in the shape of an inverted sword, the Akan symbol of peace. Kwame Nkrumah and his wife Fathia Nkrumah are buried in the mausoleum. The complex is located in Accra, on the site of a former polo field, a legacy of colonial times, next to Black Star Square.
