In the central part of Ecuador lies the Laguna Quilotoa, a volcanic caldera filled with water. It is named after the small town which is located next to the volcano. There are geothermal springs in the caldera, fumaroles on the lake bed, and some travertine deposits are visible along the shore. Visitors usually travel to this place from the city of Zumbahua, which is located 17 kilometers south of Quilotoa.
