According to legend, Petra tou Romiou, (Rock of the Romans) or Aphrodite's Rock was created when Gaia, the Greek goddess of the earth, was persuading her son Cronus to kill his father Uranus, the god of the sky. Cronus cut Uranus with a scythe. This rock was formed at the place where the lower part of the body fell into the sea. Aphrodite appeared in this place from the sea foam, so locals believed that by swimming around this rock a person could remain eternally beautiful.
