Matobo National Park was established in 1926, making it the oldest national park in Zimbabwe. A large number of plant and animal species can be found in the park, of which about 200 species of woody plants, 16 species of fish, 88 species of mammals, about 40 species of snakes, and about 175 species of birds. There are also the strange stone formations called "balancing rocks", or Mother and Child Kopje, large stones that defy gravity. These are featuring on Zimbabwean dollar bills. Matobo National Park was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2003.
