Gardens of Vatican City

The Gardens of Vatican City originated from medieval vineyards and orchards that stretched from the Apostolic Palace to the north since Pope Nicholas III moved his residence to the Apostolic Palace in the 13th century. The appearance of the garden has changed since the 16th century when a labyrinth of evergreen shrubs is added. Later, these gardens received fountains, sculptures, and artificial caves that symbolize the birthplace of Jesus Christ. In the Gardens of Vatican City, there is also a small chapel designated to Saint Therese of Lisieux, which has been declared the patron saint of these gardens.
