Yasur Volcano, widely known as Mount Yasur, is located in the eastern part of the island of Tanna. Its height is 361 meters above sea level. The island's first contact with Europeans occurred in 1774 when Captain James Cook, seeing the glow of a volcano from afar, anchored a ship in Sulfur Bay. According to oral tradition, lava boiling can be seen in the Yasur Volcano crater continuously for as long as 800 years, and the relatively small height and accessibility of the terrain attract a large number of curious guests to admire the scene.
