Kirk Keys Fortress is an archeological complex of ruins located near the city of Termez, in the southeastern part of Uzbekistan, about 500 kilometers southwest of Tashkent. Her name Qirq Qiz means “forty girls,” but the tradition behind the name is, unfortunately, lost in time. To be more precise, the whole of Central Asia abounds in various variations of the myth of 40 girls, so it is not certain which of these myths applies to this place. This bastion contained about 50 rooms and is believed to have once been the residence of a ruler, most likely the Samanid dynasty which ruled around the ninth and tenth centuries.
