The town of Dedza is the town with the highest elevation in Malawi. It is the capital of the eponymous district known for its pottery nature reserves Dedza Mountain Forest Reserve, Dedza-Salima, Mua-Livulezi, and Chongoni. There is also the Chongoni Rock Art Area, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. The drawings date from the Late Stone Age and the Early Iron Age and represent the rituals and daily activities of the people who inhabited these areas.
