Big Almaty Lake
Big Almaty Lake was formed by tectonic forces when a reservoir of fresh water was created in the valley between the peaks of Sovetov, Ozyorny, and Turist. This lake is the source of water supply for the city of Almaty, so swimming is not allowed, but the beautiful nature attracts visitors who hike here, ride bicycles, or simply enjoy the view. Big Almaty lake is one of the favorite picnic spots for the locals, so avoid weekends, if possible.
