Lake Balaton is located in the south of the Transdanubia region, in the western part of Hungary. Its name is derived from the Slavic word for mud. Balaton is the largest and shallowest freshwater lake in this part of Europe. In the past, the shores of Lake Balaton were exclusively wine-growing regions, while today it is a priority in tourism, although wine is still produced. There are significant accommodation capacities and accompanying contents on the lake, music festivals and various manifestations are held here.
