Dominica is home to the peninsula in the northwestern part of the island whose surface is completely occupied by Cabrits National Park. Fort Shirley, located in the park, is a fortification that guarded the northern part of the island in a system of defensive fortifications across the Caribbean islands dating from different eras of the British-French conflicts of the 18th and 19th centuries. Fort Shirley has remained partly intact and partly renovated, so concerts, weddings, celebrations, and other festivities are organized here today.
