The road between Nicosia and Kyrenia was guarded during the Crusades by three fortresses built by the Byzantines. The best-preserved ruin of these three is St. Hilarion Castle. Some say that this fortress served as the inspiration for the castle in Disneyland. Keep in mind that the fortress is located in the northern part of the island under Turkish control, and next to the military, so please follow the military guidelines on behavior in this area. There is no public transport to the fortress, so the only solution is some kind of individual transport.
