Sompur Mahavihara

Probably the most important archeological site in Bangladesh, Sompur Mahavihara is UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985. One of the most famous Buddhist Viharas in south Asia, this archeological site covers 27 acres, of which 21 acres covers a complex of 177 meditation cells, stupas, temples, viharas, and other buildings. Surrounded by a 5 meters thick wall and 3 to 5 meters high, this site is home to many statues, ornamental terracotta plaques, coins, ceramics, etc.
