Mana Pools National Park is located in the north of the country along the Zambezi River, which in this part turns the fertile plain into a flooded area after each rainy season. Mana Pools National Park is just a river separated from Lower Zambezi National Park in Zambia. This park has the largest population of hippos in the country, and there are also lions, wild dogs, cheetahs, elephants, zebras, and buffaloes. The park has been under pressure several times from the hydro-energy lobby, which wants to build another dam on the Zambezi River, which would flood the national park area on both sides of the river.
