The old, historic part of Zanzibar City, Stone town is a popular tourist destination for its charming labyrinth-like narrow streets, little shops, mosques, cathedrals, and historic buildings in Swahili, Arabian, Persian and Europen style. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Stone town - also called Mji Mkongwe - got its name from the ubiquitous use of coral stone as the main construction material. If you're lucky, you will see a birth home of the late Freddie Mercury, frontmen of the popular music group Queen.
