Al Fahidi Historical District or Al Bastakiya is a neighborhood in Dubai dating back to the late 19th century. This neighborhood is preserved in its original condition, with narrow streets, small craft shops, shops, galleries, cafes, and teahouses. During the 1980s, this entire neighborhood was scheduled for demolition, and about half of it was demolished. At the urging of Prince Charles who visited Al Bastakiya, the rest was restored and preserved for tourists. Visitors here can see what life in this area looked like before the discovery of oil and the luxury that came after that.
