Monument of Neutrality

Built on the orders of then-President Saparmurat Niyazov, the Monument of Neutrality is a 95-meter-high tower topped by a gold-plated statue of President Niyazov. From its erection in 1998 until its relocation in 2010, the monument was located in the capital Ashgabat, but in 2007 elected president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow decided to move the monument to the suburbs. Since the relocation, the statue of Niyazov, which had been rotating following the sun until then, has remained static. The highest level where the viewing platform is constructed is reached by three elevators that pass through all three legs of the monument.
