Zeugma Mosaik Museum

Zeugma Mosaic Museum is the biggest mosaic museum in the world, located in the town of Gaziantep. Museum was opened in 2011. but these Roman mosaics was first discovered in the 1920s. Archeological excavation started in the late 1980s, but the site was severely looted in period 1960's - 1998 by illegal excavators. Zeugma was founded in the 3rd-4th century B.C. by one of Alexander the Great’s commanding generals, Seleucus Nicator I. The city was on the location of the great strategical importance due to Alexander the Great's military campaigns to the east. Hence this the city grew and developed well. Probably many of the world's best mosaic artist was attracted to Zeugma and some of the best mosaics were preserved for the eyes of the future generations.
