Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya

Ayutthaya or Ayutthaya Historical Park contains the ruins of the second capital of Siam, which was founded around 1350. By 1700 Ayutthaya had become one of the largest cities in the world with a total of 1 million inhabitants. These extremely beautiful relics came to be after the city was destroyed in a fire set by the Burmese in the 18th century. The park shows the glory of ancient Thailand and the old palaces and temples stand as a testament to this. There are also several foreign settlements, which show the influence other countries had on Thailand at the time. The eclectic array of architectural styles is seen amid its grid-like patterns of moats, roads, and canals. The Ayutthaya is located only a short bus ride from Bangkok, making it convenient for a day trip.
