Gamcheon Culture Village is located in the southeast of the country in the suburbs of Busan. The village was built in the 1920s and 1930s to house workers in a nearby port. In 2009, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism devised a project where art students painted in vivid colors the hitherto modest houses on the steep sides of the hills surrounding the bay. The result was so good that in 2015 alone, Gamcheon Culture Village was visited by about 1.4 million tourists.
