Located on the northern border of the country towards Poland, High Tatras (Vysoke Tatry) is a mountain range that is one of the Slovakia most popular landmarks. The highest peak is Gerlachovský štít at 2,655 meters above sea level, but there are 29 peaks higher than 2500 meters. Usual gateway to Vysoke Tatry mountain is a town Poprad, which will point the way to ski resorts such as Tatranská Lomnica, Štrbské Pleso, and Starý Smokovec. In the summertime, there are great trails for mountain biking and hiking. Mountain rivers form beautiful waterfalls, and it is very likely to come across brown bear, wolves, foxes and many different wild animals. Here is also the first European cross-border (Slovakia / Poland) national park.
