Uhud Mountain is a mountain above Medina and the site of a battle in 625 AD between Muslims and numerous Meccans, who sought revenge for the defeat of the previous year. At one point, the Muslims were close to victory, but the ranks disbanded too soon, so a counterattack ensued and panic among the Muslims brought victory to the Meccans. The Prophet Muhammad was wounded, and although his fighters regrouped, he decided to withdraw his army, to save the lives of the remaining soldiers. To this day, Uhud Mountain is a religiously and historically very important place in Saudi Arabia.
