Solovetsky Islands

Located in the western part of the White Sea, Solovetsky Islands - also called Solovki is UNESCO World Heritage Site. The islands are renown for hosting the Solovetsky Monastery, as well as being the site of the first gulag in Soviet Russia. Although hard to get to, being pretty much remote, Solovki is well worth the visit.
