Qatar is one of the smallest and wealthiest Arab countries. It is located in Southwest Asia on the Qatar Peninsula, along the southern coast of the Persian Gulf. Qatar shares a land border only with Saudi Arabia, while the rest of the country is surrounded by the waters of the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Bahrain. The population is about 2.8 million inhabitants, with over two-thirds being Muslims. The people of Qatar take pride in their traditionalism, and the laws of the country are rooted in Sharia law.
