Wieliczka Salt Mine is located about 14 kilometers southwest of the center of Krakow. In this mine, salt has been mined since the 13th century AD, and since 1722, the mine has been welcoming visitors. This mine is known for the size of Chapel of St King (54x18x12 meters), which is made entirely of salt, including chandeliers, tiles, and an altar. Three miners have been building this chapel for over 30 years! The mine has several more chambers, countless statues, labyrinths, and old mining devices. Mine has been on the UNESCO list since 1978. Commercial salt production stopped in 1996, but the number of visitors increases every year. The list of visitors is also impressive, but you will discover that when you visit the mine.
