Białowieża Forest is located in the northeast of the country, on the border with Belarus. This huge forest is the last refuge of the European Bison, the largest land mammal on the European continent. On the Polish side, the national park has an area of 105 square kilometers, and on the Belarusian side, about 1,771 square kilometers. This area is considered the largest lowland primal forest in Europe and is included on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites List.
