Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque (Muscat)

In the year 1992 sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said decided that the country should have a grand mosque. After two years of preparation, construction started in 1994. It has 5 minarets, and the central dome is 50 meters high. The capacity of this mosque is 20 000 worshipers. For a few years, this mosque held two world records - for biggest chandelier and for biggest single-piece hand woven carpet.
