Marken is a picturesque village conveniently settled on a peninsula in the Markermeer lake, located in North Holland. Traditional vibrantly colored wooden houses are the biggest attraction of the village, making it a sort of a village-museum. Since 1983 travelers can also visit Marker Museum, focused on the history and heritage of the island. Make sure to also check out a tiny wooden shoe factory and picturesque, 19th-century lighthouse constructed in 1839.
