What is exciting about exploring Mexico is the fact that historical sites lie scattered throughout the country. One such archeological site is Paraiso Maya Palenque. It is a Mayan city in the jungle located near the modern town of Palenque, distinguished by the preservation of pyramidal temples and an observatory tower that shows the importance of astronomy to the ancient Maya. Palenque has only about 10 percent of explored areas, so the assumption is that the jungle hides many more objects and ruins. The Paraiso Maya Palenque site is on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list.
