The Pinang Peranakan Mansion is a museum dedicated to Penang’s Peranakan heritage in George Town, in a part of town that is on the UNESCO World Heritage Sites List. The mansion belonged to the Chinese merchant Chung Keng Quee who lived in it in the late 19th century. He was the founder of the city of Taiping, the leader of the secret society Hai San, and a wealthy tycoon. The Pinang Peranakan Mansion is a mix of Chinese and European styles of building. In addition to photographs, clothing, and furniture, visitors are left breathless by wood carvings, mother-of-pearl decorations, gilded doors, walls, and statues.
