The Great Rift Valley is part of a geological process that in the distant past threatened to tear the African continent. Instead of splitting, the Great Rift Valley was created, stretching from Ethiopia to Tanzania. In Kenya, the northern part of the valley is Lake Turkana, and to the south of it, lakes and volcanoes alternate, some of which are still active. Since the climate is mild, the abundance of plant and animal species finds a habitat in this valley so, many national parks are in the Great Rift Valley.
