The Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi is one of the oldest and most famous buildings in Kazakhstan. Khoja Ahmed Yasawi was an 11th-century mystic, poet, and religious leader. His character is a significant part of Kazakhstan’s national identity. Construction began in 1389 by the order of Timur, ruler of the Timurid Empire. The mausoleum is located in the city of Turkistan in the south of the country. The beautiful mausoleum building is owned by the state, under its protection, and on the UNESCO list.
