There are countless reminders throughout Israel of the great injustice and crime that befell the Jewish people, the Holocaust. The official monument of Israel that unites all the memories of this crime is Yad Vashem (a monument and a name). It was built in 1953 near Jerusalem, on Mount Herzl, which is also called the Mount of Remembrance. It was opened for the public in 1957. In this complex is the Archive, the Holocaust History Museum, the Children's Memorial, the Hall of Remembrance, the Museum of Holocaust Art, sculptures, the Valley of the Communities, a synagogue, and the Garden of the Righteous Among the Nations.
