The Golan Heights gained an infamous reputation in the late 1960s and early 1970s when war broke out around this plateau between Israel and Syria. The military actions are long over, the communities live in peace and the Golan Heights is presented to the world in a much more beautiful way. While on the Golan Heights, you can go rafting or kayaking on the Jordan River, canyoning in the Black Canyon, or even visit the ski resort on Mount Hermon which offers skiing in the winter and hiking in the summer. There are also Banias Waterfalls, Gamla Nature Reserve, and vineyards where you can taste the best Israeli wines.
