The Carenage
The Island of Spices, as Grenada is often called, has earned its reputation by trading with overseas countries. The place where merchant ships docked, the main port, and the center of all events on the island was the Carenage. Today, this part is known for its picturesque buildings from the colonial period and the perfect setting for a walk between sailboats and small ships on one side and the beautiful buildings scattered on the surrounding hills on the other. Many visitors mention this port as the most beautiful in the Caribbean.
