Kachikally Crocodile Pool

Kachikally Crocodile Pool is located in the city of Bakau, only ten kilometers from the capital of The Gambia, the city of Banjul. In the Gambian tradition, the crocodile symbolizes fertility, so the place where crocodiles live is, in a way, a sanctuary. Often children are given the name Katchikally, which means that the child is the result of prayers in a sanctuary like this. There are two more such places in The Gambia, but the Katchikally Crocodile Pool is the most famous. Tourists come here to see crocodiles up close, and the braver ones can also touch the crocodiles that are fed here and quite calm.
