Harar

Harar is a city of special importance for the believers of the Islamic religion because it is considered the fourth most important holy city for Muslims, who call it the City of Saints. Harar Jugol, the old walled part of the city, is under the protection of UNESCO, and the government of Ethiopia declared it is a criminal act to destroy or change the appearance of old buildings and monuments. Harar was the capital of the Adal Sultanate, and 82 mosques and 102 shrines testify to its importance in the Islamic world. Visitors love to visit two mosques that date back to the 10th century!
