In Quito, the capital of Ecuador the Church of la Compañía de Jesús is located, also known as Church of the Jesuits. It was built from 1605 to 1765. The church represents the most magnificent example of Spanish baroque architecture in Ecuador. It abounds in plaster ornaments, polychrome, and ornaments gilded with gold leaves for which it is famous. Visitors are attracted by the splendor of this temple, which is a jewel of South American architecture.
