Although tourism in Dominica has developed more slowly, due to the somewhat smaller number of fairytale beaches, some individuals have recognized the potential of their island and taken steps to turn the potential into an advantage. In 1969, Mrs. Anne Jno Baptiste created the Papillote Tropical Gardens. Even today, after more than half a century, its focus is ecotourism, and the location includes gardens, geothermal water sources, a river, and waterfalls. The gardens have attracted a large number of species of birds and other animals that complete the impression of paradise.
