Larnaca salt lake
Larnaca salt lake is a set of salt lakes that form a special ecosystem attracting as many as 85 species of birds. The area is protected by several environmental organizations. On the shores of the lake is the mosque Hala Sultan Tekke, one of the holiest places in Ottoman Islam. According to tradition, Umm Haram bint Milhan, one of the companions of the Prophet Muhammad, is buried here. The lake evaporates every summer and fills with water every winter. Visitors who want to observe birds usually choose the winter months to visit the lake.
