Makgadikgadi Pans National Park

Makgadikgadi Pans are the place where the Makgadikgadi lake that dried up about 10,000 years ago was located. These salt pans are considered as the origin of Homo sapiens, due to recent mitochondrial DNA research. This hostile series of salt pans are a desert environment that is inhabited by very few species that have adapted to adverse conditions. The only thing that breaks the unique horizon is Baines baobab trees and few herds of zebras and African buffaloes.
